5 things we’d like to improve in our school, Quezon City Science High School

Quezon City Science High School may be know for it’s excellence in discipline and academics, but there are still things that we can do to make it a better and healthier institution of knowledge and learning.

1.Medical facilities– QueSci only has 1 substandard clinic which is often unattended because only a MAPEH teacher is in charge of managing it. This means that students are left without any medical assistance. Another thing is that the only apparent drug that they have is Biogesic, a generic paracetamol medicine.

2. Waste Segregation– This largely falls upon the fault of the students but we’d like to point out that there is only one garbage bin per location in maybe four or five corners of the school. There should be two so as to separate the biodegradable from the non-biodegradable.

3.Restrooms– The majority of QueSci restrooms lack a a proper plumbing system maybe due to worn out pipelines and a faulty water delivery path. This means that flushing is incredibly crude and hampens cleanliness because of the nature of keeping standing water around.

4. Dengue Awareness-Because of the commonality of standing water, mosquitoes are free to lay their eggs frequently with little penalty and are able to spread diseases to each and every inhabitant of the campus.

5. Security Mindset– According to the several guards and security staff of the school, students are better left inside the school roaming wanderessly rather than being able to go home immediately in the comfort of their own home. This is baffling as it contradicts so many common sense principles that it borders on the unruly.

Why we decided to pursue out Dengue Awareness Campaign ?

Out the things that we listed, we chose to focus on Dengue Awareness. Health and the environment plays a big role on students. A student cannot focus on academics if he/she is not healthy in all aspects. Health should be the main priority. Dengue is a very common disease in the Philippines, being a tropical country. Every year, Dengue cases rise and many people become patients of this disease and children are big targets. A huge percentage of Dengue patients are students. So, we decided to spread awareness on this particular disease that is very decapitating.

As the video posted in our site says, Dengue prevention should start in schools, and we couldn’t agree more. That is why we chose to shed light on this issue so that QueSci could be a safer and healthier learning environment for the Scientian community.
